Everton continue bizarre trend as shocking stat emerges after late victory vs Crystal Palace

Everton finally ended their losing run in emphatic fashion on Sunday as they beat Crystal Palace 2-1.

At half-time, it looked destined that the Toffees would fall to yet another defeat, after going behind, as Crystal Palace’s sensational form continued at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

However, a resolute second-half display saw David Moyes’ side completely turn the game on its head, with Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish both netting late on to give the hosts all three points.

Multiple Everton players were outstanding against Crystal Palace, with Moyes rightly reaping the rewards from his changes at half-time, in a game they almost looked certain to lose.

Everton have won three of their last 31 home Premier League games when conceding first

While the Hill Dickinson Stadium may be a fortress for Everton at present, the Toffees have never been too successful when going behind.

Back at Goodison Park, when losing at home in the Premier League, BBC Sport confirmed on 5 October that they had only won twice in 30 attempts.

With the result against Palace on Sunday, this has now become three in 31 matches.

However, the bizarre thing about this statistic is that each of the three victories have come against the Croydon side.

The first came in May 2022, in a 3-2 victory, and the second was the 2-1 comeback in the 2024-25 season, with Carlos Alcaraz scoring the winner.

Therefore, Moyes’ side clearly continued this trend on Sunday as they flipped yet another match against Palace on its head.

David Moyes deserved credit for his half-time changes

It would be an understatement to say that Everton were woeful in the first half.

If it was not for Jordan Pickford, the Toffees could have been three or four goals down at the break.

Changes were clearly needed, and Moyes deserves credit for not only making them but for ensuring each one made a big impact.

Even Beto, who has been slammed for his recent performances at Everton, was great coming on to the pitch and offered the Toffees the focal point they were missing.

Hopefully, Moyes’ side can now go into the Manchester City game after the international break with confidence after a great display.
