David Moyes set to address huge Everton issue as summer transfer target now ‘priority objective’

Everton have already singled out their number one target for the January transfer window.

The Toffees had a busy summer window with nine new additions joining their ranks, and the overhaul looks set to continue this winter.

Jack Grealish was arguably Everton’s most eye-catching piece of business, but despite their busy summer, there are still notable holes in the squad that need to be addressed.

David Moyes’ men have made a bright start to the campaign in spite of those issues, and one of their biggest problems now looks set to be solved in January.

Everton identify Juanlu Sanchez as ‘priority objective’ for January

Everton were chasing Juanlu Sanchez over the summer, but ultimately missed out on the 21-year-old as he remained at Sevilla beyond the deadline.

The Merseysiders were ready to battle the likes of Wolves and Napoli for the youngster’s signature, but were eventually left wondering what could have been.

However, Moyes and Co. have now outlined Sanchez as their “priority objective” for the upcoming window, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Everton are understood to be hopeful of preparing a convincing offer for the right-back, with Sevilla having previously valued him in the region of £17.3million.

Napoli are also keen to reignite their interest in the Spain youth international, but Sevilla are insistent that a deal will only be possible if their valuation is met.

The Toffees are desperately short at right-back

Jake O’Brien has filled in for Everton at right-back in the majority of games so far this season, and while he hasn’t let his team down, a stronger option would certainly be preferable.

The Irishman is steady defensively and does the basics well, but he regularly hinders the Toffees in the attacking half of the pitch, as he simply doesn’t have the athleticism or technical quality that a natural, modern-day full-back would provide.

Moyes seemingly has little faith in Nathan Patterson, given that he is yet to make an appearance this term, while Seamus Coleman is at the stage where his strengths lie more in an ambassadorial role within the squad.

With that in mind, a new right-back is a must for Everton in January, and Sanchez could be the perfect option for them.

He is energetic and provides quality on the ball, and at his age, there is plenty of room for him to develop int he future.

The Toffees have done the right thing by identifying him as a key option, but the next step is for them to nail down a deal with Sevilla.
