Kris Boyd names two ex-Everton managers as potential new Rangers boss

Two former Everton managers could be in the running for the Rangers job.

Russell Martin has been dismissed from his role at Ibrox, with former Everton chief Kevin Thelwell set to source a replacement.

Everton sold Youssef Chermiti to Rangers this summer, so the Blues’ former sporting director is not afraid to use his contacts on Merseyside.

Toffees supporters could see a familiar face in the Ibrox dugout in the near future, if Kris Boyd gets his way.

Former Everton bosses Sean Dyche and Frank Lampard could take over at Rangers

Ex-Everton boss Frank Lampard has been linked with the England job, when Thomas Tuchel departs from the Three Lions role, but he could decide that the Gers are a more realistic opportunity.

Meanwhile, Sean Dyche, who has been out of work since being sacked by the Blues in January, is another name that is prominently linked to the Gers.

Boyd believes that Thelwell could use his Blues experience to tempt either one to Govan, after Martin was dismissed from his post.

Speaking on Sky Sports on 5 October, he said: “Frank Lampard’s name was another one that was mentioned. I know he’s doing some wonderful things at Coventry City, but is that out of the equation now?

“The obvious one for me would be Sean Dyche. Kevin Thelwell worked with him in the past, and he seems to have a lot of say in the players that are coming in.”

Surely Lampard is not realistic, Dyche could be an option

Lampard has been brilliant at Coventry, and has the Midlands side at the top of the Championship, after a remarkable start to the campaign.

Surely he would not want to move to a chaotic Gers side, that are already 11 points off the top of the Scottish Premiership.

However, Dyche could be a realistic option for the 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh, as he has been out of work since being sacked by the Toffees.

The Bears would represent exactly the size of club that the ex-Burnley man would like to manage, and he may jump at the opportunity to get back into management, with a club that are playing in European competition.

Toffees fans could see one of their former managers in Scottish football sooner rather than later.
