Supercomputer predicts Everton will do something in Premier League not seen in five years

Everton’s strong start to the Premier League season continued when they beat Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Jack Grealish‘s late goal saw Everton beat Crystal Palace 2-1, after Iliman Ndiaye had scored a penalty to put the Toffees back on terms.

The win saw David Moyes‘ side win their first game since the end of August, bringing a barren run across all competitions to an end.

It was not all good for Everton, however, Thierno Barry was slammed for his performance against Crystal Palace amid a difficult first half for the home side.

The Frenchman was replaced at half time, and Beto was praised for his impact off the bench for Everton.

Supercomputer predicts best Everton league finish in five years

Everton were predicted to avoid relegation from the Premier League by Opta’s supercomputer at the start of the season, but the focus has shifted since then.

A strong start to the campaign has seen the Toffees sitting eighth in the Premier League, just one point away from the top six.

The arrival of the likes of Grealish, and the form of players such as Ndiaye and James Garner has Moyes’ side instead looking up the table, for the first time in many years.

After Sunday’s incredible scenes, the supercomputer has predicted that Everton will finish 11th in the Premier League.

That would be their highest league finish since Carlo Ancelotti‘s team in 2020-21, and the highest league finish in front of fans since 2018-19.

But Everton will be looking even higher than 11th, and given their start, it would be hard to blame them.

How did Everton’s 2020-21 season transpire?

The 2020-21 Premier League season was an odd one for several reasons. The Covid-19 pandemic had left stadiums empty and clubs pennyless.

But for Everton, it brought a strong start to the season. The Toffees would win their first four games, before going on a run of four without victory.

With good form coming in bursts, Ancelotti’s side would win 17 games and earn 59 points across the season.

If Everton were to continue on that exact same track as they currently are, they could expect to finish one point better off than that tally.

But Moyes’ side will hope to surpass 60 points, and embark on a push towards the top six like one not seen at Everton since 2013-14.
