Everton stars to follow James Tarkowski in signing new contracts ‘shortly’

Everton are continuing to tie down their best and brightest, as they look to fight off potential interest from rivals.

James Tarkowski signed a new contract at Everton on Wednesday, with the two-year extension expected to keep him at the Hill Dickinson Stadium until at least 2028.

The defender has featured in every minute of the Toffees’ season so far, and continues to be a crucial part of David Moyes‘ plans.

Tarkowski is the second defender to commit their future at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, after Jarrad Branthwaite signed a new contract at Everton in July.

Branthwaite is still injured after suffering a setback in his recovery, but the defender is expected to be close to a return after the international break.

Toffees to follow James Tarkowski in signing

James Garner has received huge praise for his Everton performances this season.

The midfielder has featured in every minute for Moyes’ side so far, and has been crucial to the Toffees’ resurgence.

Playing the bulk of his minutes in the midfield, but filling in for Vitalii Mykolenko when the left-back has been unavailable, Garner has consistently driven Everton forward.

Such is the quality of his performances, the 24-year-old has even been touted for an England call-up, although recognition from Thomas Tuchel is yet to arrive.

But with the midfielder’s contract in its final years, decision-makers at the Hill Dickinson Stadium have now moved to stave off any external interest.

Paul Joyce reported on Wednesday that new deals are expected to arrive “shortly” for both Garner and Jordan Pickford, following the announcement of Tarkowski’s extension.

Vitalii Mykolenko will likely follow

Everton are also in talks to extend Mykolenko’s contract, with the defender’s current terms set to expire next summer.

Talks appear yet to be close to a conclusion on that front, but the Toffees will hope for a quick resolution.

Mykolenko was reportedly the subject of interest from Napoli in the summer, but the Ukraine international was happy to stay in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old has had his injury problems in recent months, but continues to be Moyes’ first option on the left of the defence.
