Everton told to target ‘big-money’ transfer in January with headline exit on cards
Everton look set to face another busy transfer window when January comes around.
Nine new faces joined the ranks at the Hill Dickinson Stadium over the summer, but there are still notable holes in the squad that will need to be addressed.
David Moyes has overseen a bright start at Everton this term, and they appear to be far better equipped to compete in the Premier League than they have in recent seasons.
However, the squad is still far from perfect, with one particular area causing issues despite the summer business.

Everton told to spend big on a striker in January
Both Beto and Thierno Barry have struggled for Everton so far this term, with the former significantly underperforming his xG, and the latter struggling to adapt to English football.
Barry was a £27million investment for the Merseysiders when they brought him in from Villarreal over the summer, but he has found life in the Premier League to be very challenging so far.
As a result, the depth at the top of the pitch is a concern for the Toffees and will surely need to be rectified in January, with an exit for one of the above even suggested.
- Beto has notched just one league goal from an xG of 2.54 this season
- His highest-ever Premier League goals tally is eight (which he achieved in 2024-25)
- Barry has had just four shots in his seven Premier League appearances and is yet to score
Ex-Everton scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – has pointed to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s exit as the source of the issue, and has also urged his former employers to spend big this winter.
“If your front players aren’t performing, then you’ve probably got to get rid of one and bring someone in who will push the man that they choose to keep,” King said.
“It’s a position that Everton have put themselves in by letting Calvert-Lewin go. I think they do need fresh blood up front, but then how much is that going to cost them?

“They’ve got to start looking at what kind of money they’d be happy to pay for a centre forward. They’ve either got to stick with what they’ve got, or they’ll have to go out and spend big money.
“And who’s going to let a big-money striker go in January?”
Everton have to get more support for Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye
Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye have been excellent for Everton so far this term, but they cannot continue to be relied upon to shoulder almost all of the creative responsibility.
The signing of Barry is yet to pay off, while Beto has continued to prove that he is a stereotypical purple patch frontman. Meanwhile, Tyler Dibling is yet to excite in the limited football that he has received.
With that in mind, a new attacker has to be the top priority for Moyes and Co. this winter.
They can try and make do with their current options, but they could easily be bitten badly if one of Grealish or Ndiaye picks up an injury.
