David Moyes must address concerning Premier League statistic before it costs him

David Moyes will want to build on Everton’s commendable start to the Premier League.

Moyes will have time with the Premier League paused for the international break to make a few tactical changes before his players return.

The Toffees closed up shop for the next couple of weeks on a high, where a last minute winner from Jack Grealish for Everton secured all three points against Crystal Palace.

In addition to reaching 300 career appearances for the Blues, Jordan Pickford can break another record for England if he keeps another clean sheet this international break.

However, he will not be the only one with a record on his mind before the club season resumes.

Everton have the second most yellow cards in the Premier League

Three wins in seven games for Everton sees them eighth in the Premier League for now.

As one of the most physical leagues in the world, a little push or shove is not unheard of in the top division. In fact, fans welcome some roughing up from time to time.

However, the Toffees may have flown a little too close to the sun with this one and are second behind Brighton on yellow cards with 18 accumulated in seven matches.

It is a damning statistic for a team that has conceded just seven goals this season, ranking seventh overall in the Premier League.

While Everton have yet to receive a red card this season, this should be a concern for Moyes and defensive discipline on the pitch must be an area he address before those yellows turn a deeper, more furious shade.

How well have Everton defended in the Premier League this season?

The Toffees have defended well enough to keep them on the right side of the table thus far.

In seven games, Everton have kept two clean sheets, where they rank eleventh in the league according to Sofascore.

Meanwhile, the Blues have conceded one penalty goal from two won, thanks to Pickford’s heroics in Everton’s win over Brighton earlier in the season.

The Toffees have committed 10.3 fouls per game which, perhaps shockingly, is the seventh least in the league and have made 29.4 clearances, which is unsurprisingly at this point the seventh most.

Therefore, while Everton have performed well in certain defensive statistics, their performance thus far is pretty average and their league position reflects just that.
