Pep Guardiola’s latest admission could spell trouble for Everton’s chances of signing Jack Grealish
Everton’s chances of signing Jack Grealish permanently may have taken a hit.
Grealish has started his Everton career in brilliant form, notching one goal and four assists in his first nine matches.
Grealish will be a huge miss for Everton when they face Manchester City, as he is not allowed to face his parent club.
Everton are understood to have a £50million option to buy the loanee, and they could reportedly negotiate a lower fee, but that may be in doubt now.
What Pep Guardiola said about Everton’s pursuit of Jack Grealish
Everton are hopeful that they can reach an agreement to sign Grealish from City at the end of the campaign.
However, their pursuit of the 30-year-old could be in danger after a new admission from Pep Guardiola ahead of the clash between the sides.
Speaking on 17 October, the Spaniard said: “He has a contract, one more year, or two more years with us.
“The most important thing is, he is back, he is playing.
“He is a massive influence in Everton games, maybe after what happened, Manchester City want him back, I don’t know.”
Grealish should force a move to Everton for his career
Grealish could well go back to Guardiola’s side at the end of the campaign, but that would be a ridiculous move, given that he would not be guarenteed a role as a starter.
He is exactly that at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and he has a chance to make the England squad for the 2026 World Cup, which he would not have had, if he had stayed at City.
- Grealish featured 32 times for City last season
- He notched three goals and five assists in those appearances
- He has already nearly matched those figures for the Toffees
It makes sense that he wants to prove himself at the very top level, but he should move on from his stint in Manchester, and force a move to the Blues.
The supporters love him, he is playing week in, week out, and in excellent form, it feels like a no-brainer for the former Aston Villa man to stay on Merseyside, rather than returning to the Etihad Stadium.
Even if Guardiola and City want to keep him, he should not allow them to dictate his career, and stagnate it, after he has found freedom in L4 under David Moyes.
