Everton to watch closely as Anthony Caci difficulties emerge from Germany

Everton’s results at the start of the season have proved the Toffees may have had one of the best transfer windows in the Premier League.

Jack Grealish has been phenomenal since arriving at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on loan, as a gamble of sorts on the marquee signing seems to have paid off for David Moyes.

Not only that, but the Toffees managed to keep James Tarkowski, tying him down to a long-term contract, as Jordan Pickford also extended his stay at Everton.

Reports from Germany suggest that Everton were also close to signing French defender Anthony Caci, as his current situation could reel the Toffees back in.

Everton could rekindle previous interest in Mainz 05’s Anthony Caci

Caci is a French right-wing-back who has had an impressive couple of years in the Bundesliga with Mainz 05.

However, Caci now sits in a “difficult situation” after his injury problems, as Everton could reignite their interest in the winter transfer window.

As reported in Sport Bild’s print edition on Wednesday, when discussing new contracts, they say: “The most difficult situation concerns Anthony Caci.

In February 2025, the right-back had openly said that he did not want to commit to the club in the long term.

Nice, Everton and Fulham were among the interested parties. However, Caci is now out until the end of the year with a muscle tendon injury in the right thigh.”

The Frenchman is a versatile player and can play anywhere on the right-hand side of a team, as his skillset emerges as one that could be key for Everton.

Would Caci really improve Everton?

The situation is a little complicated for the Toffees and Moyes, as Caci is clearly a player of interest, and there’s no way he would snub a move to Merseyside.

However, with his thigh issue, there will be concerns over the 28-year-old’s ability to make a swift recovery.

But with how football works these days, if there is enough interest from Everton, they will be able to make close contact with Caci’s entourage to assess his situation.

Nathan Patterson remains injured for Everton, as the right-back position is the biggest flaw in Moyes’ squad.

Caci would suit Premier League football, as the Bundesliga’s physicality would have him well prepared to settle straight into England.

He would provide another source of creativity in an Everton side that sometimes needs that little bit extra. A maverick, who Moyes may very well go back in for come January.
