Everton have new contract priority as as Premier League rivals plot Harrison Armstrong swoop

Everton face the prospect of losing Harrison Armstrong without a transfer fee being involved.

Everton boss David Moyes rates Armstrong highly, and he has impressed since joining Championship side Preston on loan.

Armstong has made eight appearances for the Toffees’ first team but has primarily spent most of his senior career away from the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton’s focus has been on contracts for the likes of James Garner and Vitalii Mykolenko, but the 18-year-old may be the most important of them all.

Leeds and Burnley plotting swoop for Everton loanee Harrison Armstrong

Armstrong’s form has led to speculation that Everton may recall him, and if he continues to star at Deepdale, it could be an issue.

A report from SportsBoom on 21 October claims that Leeds United and Burnley are chasing the Finch Farm graduate, whose contract expires next summer, as a potential star of the future.

It states that Everton are monitoring his progress, and are considering offering him a new contract to ward off suitors.

Everton have to act quickly amid Armstrong interest

Moyes and Co need to tie Armstrong down as quickly as possible and act now to keep him around, it has to be their new priority.

He may decide that the opportunity to play more regularly than he would on Merseyside is too good to turn down, and reject an offer of a new deal.

The Blues have lost previous talents like Isaac Price and Thierry Small for the same reason, they felt like there was no pathway to the senior team and departed as a result, in search of game time.

Moyes loves the Liverpool-born midfielder, admitting in January that he had been “hugely impressed” by the young midfielder and was caught watching him in action on 21 October.

He will surely not want to see him depart on a free transfer, so the Toffees need to move quickly and secure one of their most promising young talents.
