Tim Howard says how many transfers Everton desperately need after what he has seen

Everton were finally beaten at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the 3-0 loss to Tottenham on Sunday.

Everton received some brutal refereeing calls as they fell to defeat on 27 October, but they did not deserve victory.

David Moyes was backed to rebuild his Everton squad by the Friedkin Group this summer, as they spent approximately £113million to improve it.

However, it is clear that they are still short in a number of areas after the loss to Thomas Frank’s side.

Tim Howard believes Everton need at least five new players

Several Everton players underperformed against Tottenham, which raises serious concerns for Moyes and Co. about the state of the squad.

Tim Howard shared a dismal reality on Everton’s needs for the transfer market after the result, claiming that they need five players.

Speaking on NBC Sports on 26 October, he said: “They are probably about five players short, that is half the team.

“They still need a striker, they need at least a full-back, the midfield work hard, but they need two midfielders, and they are still short a couple of players.

“David Moyes came in and steadied the ship, everything felt right at the back end of last season, new stadium, there is an aura about that, but the team still needs to get better and that is not going to happen overnight.

Everton may need more than five players

The areas that Howard highlights are well-documented as issues for the Blues, but they may not be the only ones.

The likes of Beto and Thierno Barry cannot cut it upfront, Jake O’Brien is being utilised as a makeshift right back, and Vitalii Mykolenko may not be the long-term answer at left-back.

In terms of midfield, the Toffees did bring in Merlin Rohl on deadline day, but they have an ageing Idrissa Gueye and little depth in the engine room.

They may also need a left-winger if they cannot sign Jack Grealish on a permanent deal when his loan from Manchester City expires.

A right-winger may also be on the cards, if interest remains in Iliman Ndiaye and the Blues cannot match his ambitions.

It will take a huge overhaul to turn the Merseysiders into the team that they want to be, and the ownership need to hand Moyes, the funds that he needs to turn it around.

Whether they will or not, remains to be seen.
