Jack Grealish has ‘real chance’ of making England World Cup squad after what Tim Sherwood’s seen
David Moyes looks to have reignited Jack Grealish’s career at the Hill Dickinson.
Since arriving at Everton, Grealish has been in immense form under Moyes and is starting to look like the winger that England fans used to know and love.
Grealish joined Everton on a season-long loan from Manchester City, in a deal that contains a buy option, as the Toffees look to have capitalised on Pep Guardiola’s misjudgment.
Tim Sherwood, who may know Grealish better than anyone else, from his time at Aston Villa, has made an interesting claim on the back of his Everton form.

Moyes has given Grealish the license to express himself for the Toffees, and with the World Cup around the corner, the Blues could benefit from the Englishman’s desire to be a part of England’s travelling squad.
Thomas Tuchel has chopped and changed his England squad and has experimented with many players, as Grealish may also have a chance to impress soon.
- Grealish has five Premier League goal contributions eight games this season
- He scored a last-minute winner for Everton to beat Crystal Palace 2-1
- Grealish has played 39 times in the past for England
- He has not played for England since 2024
At Aston Villa in 2015, Sherwood was Grealish’s manager, and has explained on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, exactly what he thinks his former winger is “better than” any other player at.
Sherwood said: “He’s special. The boy holds the ball up better than any player I’ve ever had.
“He takes you up the pitch, Tarkowski and Keane must think ‘hold on, we’ve got a breather here’, because they’re giving him the ball, and no one can get it off him.
“I think in the World Cup, when it’s 30 degrees, we need players who can get you up the field and keep possession, and I think he’s got a real chance of getting in that squad.”
However, after a slump in Everton’s results, Grealish needs to quickly help the Toffees back on form.
Grealish needs to be at his best vs Sunderland
After Everton’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday, the Toffees have slipped down to 14th in the Premier League.
If Everton were to continue underperforming, then Grealish’s chances of getting a World Cup spot would be severely hampered.
However, the games don’t get easier for Everton and Grealish, as the Blues next travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland on Monday, a place where the Black Cats are yet to lose.
There’s no doubt that Moyes will be hoping for a result in the North-East, but to do that, he is going to need all the help of Grealish and his abilities.
