David Moyes’ record vs Sunderland speaks volumes about what Everton fans should expect

Everton travel to face Sunderland on Monday night, and previous meetings may play into their favour.

It’s been a mixed start to the campaign for Everton, who, after nine games, have picked up 11 points from three wins and two draws.

In comparison, the Black Cats have accumulated 17 points from the same number of fixtures, almost taking them out of the relegation conversation already.

However, Everton face Sunderland on Monday night, with David Moyes looking to get one over on his former club.

Sunderland hate facing David Moyes

Firstly, Sunderland fans simply hate Moyes for the role he played in their initial relegation from the Premier League back in 2017.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the Black Cats have only won against a Moyes side on two occasions, despite having had 22 encounters.

The Scotsman has secured victory against the Wearsiders on 14 occasions, with the other six clashes ending in a draw.

Moyes has not managed a game against Sunderland in over 11 years, when his Man United side were held to a 3-3 draw at Old Trafford.

Other results include a 4-0 win at Goodison Park back in 2012 and a memorable 7-1 victory for Everton back in 2007.

Everton are slight favourites to beat Sunderland on Monday night, with Moyes looking to add to his impressive record against his former side.

Everton vs Sunderland head-to-head

Dating all the way back to 1890, Sunderland and Everton have faced off against each other on 184 occasions, with the Black Cats slightly edging it.

Sunderland have won on 83 occasions, while the Toffees have won 71, leaving the other 30 to end in a draw.

Everton have won their last three against the Wearsiders without conceding a goal, with a 3-0 win on two occasions, and a 2-0 win back at Goodison Park in 2017.

The Black Cats have beaten Everton just four times in the last 24 years, showcasing why they may be favourites this Monday.
