New Jack Grealish? Three players Everton scouts would’ve been wowed by as they watched Sunderland U21s v Anderlecht

Everton will be looking to add to their ranks in the January transfer window.

David Moyes will not have been pleased with Everton’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham on Sunday, as the game proved that the Toffees can do with extra reinforcements.

Everton have transfer-listed Anthony Caci as a potential signing, but after the latest developments, Angus Kinnear and Nick Hammond could have their eyes on some talent at Sunderland.

According to the Sunderland Echo, Everton scouts were in attendance for Sunderland’s U21s 2-2 draw against Anderlecht U21s in the Premier League International Cup on Wednesday night.

Goodison News takes a look at three big-name players that Everton scouts may have been watching closely, as £21.6m man, Brian Brobbey, featured and scored.

Anthony Patterson

Everton were linked with Anthony Patterson in 2024 as the Black Cats’ goalkeeper has since lost his number one spot to Robin Roefs.

Sunderland’s promotion saw the Black Cats invest heavily in new signings, and Patterson has seen scarce game time since the start of the season, with Roefs performing.

Jordan Pickford recently signed a new contract for Everton, and Patterson could be seen as a long-term replacement for the former.

Patterson played well, according to Roker Report, and even saved a penalty.

Patterson was most likely being used to keep match sharpness, as Everton scouts may look at him as a cheap option in January.

Timur Tutierov

Timur Tutierov is Sunderland’s 20-year-old Ukrainian gem, as the attacker has been shining brightly for their U21s this campaign.

The speedy left-winger was on the score sheet once again for the Black Cats, as Everton scouts may see him as a perfect understudy to Jack Grealish.

Tutierov showed his quick feet when he scored another goal on Wednesday night, this time against European competition, as the forward showed attacking instinct all game, with promising runs.

Should Everton want to invest in young talent, it would only make sense that scouts were there for Tutierov.

Eliezer Mayenda

Beto’s struggles for Everton have been well-documented, as Moyes is still searching for answers up top.

Moyes has defended Beto’s work rate, but as good a man manager the coach is, he’s still been unable to get the most out of the forward.

Eliezer Mayenda played for Sunderland, as the striker started the season for the Black Cats in scoring fashion, netting against West Ham on the opening day of the Premier League.

Since then, Mayenda has lost his starting place to Wilson Isidor, who can’t stop scoring for the Mackems.

Mayenda had a great performance for Sunderland’s U21s on Wednesday night, and looked head and shoulders above those similar age.

The Toffees may look to bring Mayenda through the doors in January or later on, as the young Spaniard has incredible energy and attacking intelligence that would suit Moyes’ style perfectly.
