Supercomputer predicts outcome of Sunderland vs Everton in the Premier League

Everton will try to end Sunderland’s unbeaten start to the season on home turf on Monday night.

The newly-promoted side have made an excellent start to life back in the Premier League, as they currently sit fourth in the early-season table, in what is their first top-flight campaign in eight years.

Everton were put to the sword by Tottenham in their last outing, as the visitors eased to a 3-0 victory on Merseyside last weekend.

The Toffees will be desperate to put that right on Wearside this time around, but there can be no doubting the task that faces David Moyes and his men on Monday.

Everton slight favourites to beat Sunderland

Everton have had a bright start to the Premier League season in their own right, even if that has been tempered somewhat by back-to-back defeats in recent weeks.

The Merseysiders were beaten by both Manchester City and Spurs without scoring, and that has seen them slip down to 14th in the table after a promising start.

They face another tricky task in their latest assignment, as they line up against a Sunderland side who are still riding the crest of a wave following their promotion from the Championship last term.

Regis Le Bris has the Black Cats well-equipped for the Premier League, and they come into the game in completely contrasting form to Everton, having won their last two games.

Nevertheless, Moyes’ men are still being touted as the favourites for the clash at the Stadium of Light, with Opta’s supercomputer handing them a 42.4 per cent chance of coming away with all three points.

The hosts have been attributed a 32.2 per cent chance of victory, while a draw is valued at just 25.4 per cent.

Everton’s perceived strong chance of three points is somewhat surprising given the hosts’ impressive start on home turf and their own struggles away from the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees can extend excellent record vs Sunderland

Everton haven’t played Sunderland in competitive action since 2017, but they have fared well against the Black Cats in their most recent meetings.

They have beaten their upcoming opponents in all three of their most recent meetings, with the Wearsiders failing to score a single goal across those three encounters.

Sunderland have triumphed over Everton just once in their last five meetings, which came in the form of a 3-0 victory under Sam Allardyce in May 2016.

That result secured their survival in the top flight on that occasion, and Everton will be desperately hoping to avoid a repeat of that this time around.

They may have been predicted as favourites by Opta, but Moyes and Co. face a much more difficult test than perhaps meets the eye.
