David Moyes could set unwanted history vs Sunderland after Premier League reveal

David Moyes will be looking to get one over on Sunderland for reasons far beyond Monday’s game.

Everton travel to face Sunderland on Monday night, looking to pick up only their second win in their last eight games in all competitions.

Meanwhile, the Black Cats enter the clash full of momentum, having secured an impressive 2-1 victory away to Chelsea last time out.

Everton are favourites to beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, but should they fail to do so, it would set a new record for Moyes, and it certainly wouldn’t bode well.

Everton have lost two games in a row

Form has been hard to come by for the Toffees as of late, with Everton’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham and their 2-0 defeat away to Man City.

Granted, these are two incredibly tough fixtures, but after a ropey start to the campaign, the most recent one was one that they would have hoped to have emerged from with at least a point.

However, the last time that the Toffees lost three league games in a row under Moyes was back in 2011, 14 years ago.

Back then, the Toffees suffered defeat against Man City, Liverpool and then Chelsea.

Having failed to score in their previous two games, if the same were to happen on Wearside, it would be the first time since 2015 that the Toffees have failed to score in three games in a row.

Sunderland cannot be seen as a newly promoted side

Whenever a side gets promoted from the Championship, they are immediately looked at as an opportunity for three points.

While Everton should be feeling a similar way, they cannot afford to attack the game as they would have against the promoted trio of last season.

The Black Cats have shocked everyone with their start to the season, and if Everton allow an ounce of complacency into their game, they will become their next victims.

Moyes has to get his selection spot on and ensure his players aren’t affected by the hostile reception he will receive, having got the Black Cats relegated eight years ago.
