Everton must avoid 2021-22 repeat when they travel to face Sunderland
Everton face Sunderland on Monday night, with the Toffees searching for their fourth win of the season.
Everton have been a mixed bag in the Premier League so far this season, though there has certainly been more to be optimistic about than not.
The Toffees travel to face the Black Cats on Monday night at the Stadium of Light, with the Wearsiders full of momentum after their 2-1 win away to Chelsea last time out.
Sunderland and Everton have a good relationship off the pitch, but they will be enemies for 90 minutes, and the Toffees will need to take that seriously if they are to avoid repeating what they did three years ago.

Everton have already lost to Leeds this season.
Everton don’t look like they will be anywhere near relegation this season, though the fact all three promoted teams have been competitive has sent a message to the rest of the Premier League.
Sunderland have picked up 17 points from nine games, while Leeds have already secured a 1-0 win against Everton back on the opening day.
The last time that the Toffees lost back-to-back games against promoted sides was back in the 2021-22 season, when a defeat to Watford was followed by a loss against Brentford.
A defeat to Norwich followed in that season, too.

Given the results that Sunderland have already achieved so far this season, it would be far from a disaster should Everton fall to defeat, but it would give Moyes an unwanted record on Merseyside.
Everton’s recent form will be a major concern
Out of the last seven games, Everton have only managed to win once, and that was a surprise victory against Crystal Palace at the start of October.
Other than that, the Toffees have drawn four and lost two, showcasing the struggles they have faced in recent weeks.
Things aren’t gonna get much easier either, with Sunderland likely to be a huge test for Moyes‘ side, with a trip to Old Trafford and a clash against Newcastle not long after.
While it is fair to assume that Everton will be safe from a relegation fight, that could change if results don’t start flowing their way.
