David Moyes set to hand Everton chance to Adam Aznou ahead of January loan decision

Adam Aznou could be set to receive his big chance to impress at Everton in the coming weeks.

The left-back arrived from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window, but is still waiting for his first competitive appearance for the first team after his £8million move.

Aznou has turned out for Everton U21s in the Vertu Trophy on two occasions, but is yet to truly break into the first-team fold and has warmed the bench in recent weeks.

However, David Moyes could be about to give the youngster a chance to shine in the near future, ahead of a crucial decision on him in the January transfer window.

Adam Aznou may avoid Everton loan exit in January

Aznou has been linked with a move away from Everton in January, with Spanish side Getafe keen to pursue a potential loan deal for the 19-year-old.

The Moroccan almost joined the La Liga outfit in the summer, after he previously enjoyed a loan spell in Spain with Real Valladolid last season.

Vitalii Mykolenko’s struggles have outlined the left side of the defence as an area of concern for the Merseysiders of late, which adds another dimension to their impending decision regarding Aznou in January.

Ex-Everton scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that the youngster should be given the chance to impress in the first team before any decision is made regarding a loan.

“A player at that age needs consistent matches,” King said.

“At present, it looks as though Everton have got a set back four. I don’t think it’s the finished article that’s for sure. Mykolenko is a bit of an inconsistent player; he hasn’t had many top performances recently.

“I would put Aznou in the team to see how he goes for a bit. I would certainly have a look at him before I decided to send him out on loan if I were Everton.

“He could be a player who could go either way. He may be absolutely brilliant, but he could also struggle as a young player coming into senior football.”

Full-backs must be a priority for David Moyes in January

Mykolenko himself has been tipped to leave Everton in the near future, with his current contract due to expire in the summer.

That has exacerbated the Toffees’ lack of depth in their rearguard, and that is something that simply must be addressed in January if Moyes is to continue to lead them up the table.

The Scot is clearly not confident in Aznou at the moment, but it is simply not viable to get by in the Premier League with effectively just one left-back.

It is a similar issue on the right of the defence, where Jake O’Brien continues to do an admirable job out of position as a result of the lack of quality options.

Both positions are a must for Everton in January, and their campaign could easily fade away if they are not addressed.
