‘Jarrad Branthwaite could be out for months’ as new Everton return timeline emerges

Jarrad Branthwaite may be months away from an Everton return.

Branthwaite has been out of action for Everton since pre-season, when he picked up a hamstring injury against Roma in August.

Branthwaite’s injury history has become a major concern for Everton, as he has missed a significant amount of time since breaking into the senior side.

David Moyes had expected the defender to be back for the 2-0 loss to Manchester City on 18 October, but that was not the case.

New Jarrad Branthwaite timeline emerges for Everton

Everton boss Moyes confirmed that Branthwaite underwent surgery on the issue after a new setback in October.

Dr Rajpal Brar, a specialist in physical therapy and strength and conditioning, believes that it will still be months before Branthwaite returns to action for the Blues.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, he said: “How long I expect him to be sidelined depends on the surgery specifics.

“He underwent surgery due to a setback as he returned to full training, so the question becomes did he suffer another injury, like a grade 3 rupture, or was the setback, say a lower grade tear, but they want to perform surgery to limit scar tissue build up?

“In the former case, you’re looking at 3+ months, whereas in the latter it’s around 2 months or so depending on full specifics.”

Branthwaite faces a battle to make the World Cup squad

Given that he is not exactly one of Thomas Tuchel’s favourites, the Toffees star faces an uphill battle to make the squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Branthwaite will have hoped to impress the ex-Chelsea manager this season, but it looks like he will only play a few months at the end of the campaign, if injury expert Brar’s timescale is correct.

That means that he would be available from January or February onwards, and Tuchel may have already made up his mind by then.
