Premier League release statement after Everton vs Fulham controversy
Everton have received Premier League clarification over a controversial incident in their 2-0 win over Fulham.
Everton thought they had doubled their lead when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall stuck the ball in the back of the net in the 52nd minute, but the goal was ruled out.
Everton had three goals chalked off, all for offside, but it did not matter in the end as they managed to break down the visitors.
Idrissa Gueye opened the scoring for Everton in the first half, and Michael Keane made sure of the victory in the 81st minute.
Premier League claify why Dewsbury-Hall goal was ruled out
The decision to rule out a potential Everton second from James Tarkowski‘s effort caused confusion in the Sky Sports studio.
However, the Dewsbury-Hall one was arguably the most contentious as it was unclear why it was not given as a goal.
The Premier League Match Centre have confirmed that it was due to Thierno Barry’s involvement before the midfielder’s strike.
In a statement on their official X account on 8 November, they said: “The referee’s call of no goal was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed that Barry challenged an opponent for the ball while in an offside position in the build-up.”

The Blues may have won, but there will be concern over the performance of Barry, once again.
The French striker missed several chances, had a goal ruled out and was the reason why Dewsbury-Hall’s effort did not stand, as he was adjudjed to be offside when challenging for the ball.
- Barry missed one big chance and had a total of two shots in the contest
- He had 34 touches but could not make anything happen
- He was replaced by Beto in the 79th minute
He is trying to make a difference, but at the moment, he is more of a hindrance than a help for David Moyes’ side.
The real problem is that Beto does not offer much either, so it does not matter who the Scotsman selects to lead the line, as they will likely both struggle to contribute.
Moyes needs the 23-year-old to step up and start making an impact, especially after the Blues spent nearly £40million on his services.
