Jordan Pickford gets last laugh over Bernd Leno as snub backfires in Everton vs Fulham

Everton recorded their first win over Fulham at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday, as the Toffees earned a much-needed three points.

David Moyes will have been delighted with Everton beating Fulham 2-0, and particularly with Idrissa Gana Gueye’s incredible performance.

Jack Grealish continues to build on his impressive start to the season after another solid performance for the Toffees on 8 November.

Thierno Barry is getting closer to scoring his first Everton goal, as Michael Keane showed he can still perform in the Premier League for the Blues.

Bernd Leno previously mocked Jordan Pickford, as the Everton number one has now proved the Fulham goalkeeper wrong.

Bernd Leno didn’t want to put Jordan Pickford in his top 10 goalkeeper ranking

Not only was the Everton performance encouraging on the attacking front, but their defensive solidarity once again shone through.

Pickford kept a clean sheet against the Cottagers, as he will certainly sense the irony in regards to Leno’s performance.

In 2024, Leno took part in a Sky Sports interview where he was asked to blindly rank 10 goalkeepers.

During the interview, Leno was halfway through his list when Pickford’s name was asked, to which he joked that he’d put Pickford 20th if he could.

Instead, he opted to place Pickford in seventh, which was the lowest available slot he had remaining on his list.

Leno exposed the flaws in his game on Saturday, while Pickford once again proved he has the superior quality.

Pickford has excelled over Leno for years

Leno has been in the Premier League with Arsenal and now Fulham for a total of eight seasons, and during that time, his best Sofascore rating has been a 7.18 with the Cottagers in the 2022-23 campaign.

Pickford, on the other hand, has twice beaten Leno’s best season, with a 7.21 rating in the 2023-24 season and a 7.24 score last season, according to Sofascore.

Pickford is England’s number one goalkeeper and looks set to keep his place for the forthcoming 2026 World Cup.

However, Leno has only ever made nine appearances for his nation in Germany, as Pickford has well and truly had the last laugh in this debate.
