Ivan Toney aware of two serious transfer issues as Everton chase striker signing
Ivan Toney’s potential move to Everton in the January transfer window is facing two major stumbling blocks.
Everton are interested in bringing Toney back to the Premier League with current strikers Beto and Thierno Barry struggling at the Hill Dickinson Stadium this term.
Beto hasn’t scored in the Premier League since beating Wolves at the end of August, and Barry still hasn’t found the net since singing for Everton.
But despite the Toffees eyeing a potential deal for former Brentford star Toney it appears much more likely that he will remain at Al-Ahli through the winter market.

Tax and England issues to block Toney move
Speaking live on talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook issued an update which poured cold water all over the prospects of Toney, 29, heading to the Hill Dickinson.
A return to the Premier League may have attracted the forward on the grounds of it putting him in a better position to force his way into the World Cup squad in the summer.
But according to Crook that ship may have sailed already, and the heavy financial sacrifices that would be involved look to make it a no go.
While accepting it was a move that would suit Everton he said: “It’s difficult for two reasons. One, I think Ivan Toney’s aware actually, even if he’s playing in the Premier League the prospect of him being part of that England squad at the World Cup is slim. I think Thomas Tuchel, in many ways, has already made his mind up when it comes to Ivan Toney.
“And two, same as when Steven Gerrard was speaking to Rangers, if Ivan Toney was to leave early he would have to write off a lot of money in terms of tax over there in Saudi Arabia. He only moved in the summer of 2024.
“Financially, is he really going to walk away from a £400,000-a-week contract? I’m not convinced boys, to be honest.”
Joshua Zirkzee a red flag for Everton
If Toney is off the table then David Moyes is surely going to be asking The Friedkin Group to provide help up front either way.
Joshua Zirkzee is also an Everton target, but one that is hardly likely to excite fans on the basis of his struggles at Man United.
The former Bologna man clearly needs an out as he is barely featuring under Ruben Amorim, but unless he is suddenly reborn outside the chaos at Old Trafford there is little to suggest he is the answer on Merseyside.
The last time Everton provided an opportunity for a struggling Dutchman at Man United it was Donny van de Beek under Frank Lampard, and that went next to nowhere.
And with just three Premier League goals in 36 appearances it risks adding to the problem of goal-shy strikers for the Toffees rather than relieving it.
