Idrissa Gana Gueye is quietly going under the radar as one of Everton’s most influential players this season.
Gueye scored the opener against Fulham and was fantastic in spurring his side on to a 2-0 win at the Hill Dickinson Stadium last Saturday.
The Senegal international has made 222 appearances for the Toffees over two different spells, and he’s been a huge driving factor in maintaining their Premier League status in the past.
Everton have loftier ambitions this season, and Gueye tops a Premier League stat that has been hugely beneficial to the way that the Toffees have played this season.

After the international break, Everton face a terrible run of fixtures that will concern David Moyes, but there is huge optimism around the direction that the club is going in.

Despite Gueye’s impressive form, the emergence of Merlin Rohl could pose a problem to Gueye’s starting minutes in the long-term future.

Merlin Rohl could provide competition for Idrissa Gana Gueye
Rohl joined Everton from Freiburg on a season-long loan deal with an obligation to buy for a fee worth £17.3m.
Rohl is an imposing presence in the centre of midfield, standing tall at 1.91m, and his physicality could be exactly what the Toffees need.
The 23-year-old played a huge role for the Germany Under-21 team in their run to the European Championship final this summer as his country lost out to England.
As Gueye approaches the twilight years of his career, his importance to Everton has never been more valuable.
However, if Rohl can sustain a good level of fitness, he may play a bigger part in the Toffees’ season later down the line, which could have a huge detriment on Gueye’s minutes.
Regardless, the Senegalese midfielder has been a fantastic player for Everton, and his influence on the side has never been clear under Moyes this season.
