Everton would be fools to sign Kobbie Mainoo as glaring issue comes to light

Everton have been heavily linked with Kobbie Mainoo over the past week, but the Toffees would do well to avoid the transfer given the midfielder’s injury record.

The Manchester United star has struggled for minutes so far this campaign, mainly coming off the bench when he has appeared.

As a result, the England international is expected to be push for an exit, with Everton linked with a loan move for Mainoo.

Multiple other clubs are also in the race for his signature, including Napoli and Tottenham.

However, David Moyes would do well to pull out of the race now and move on to other targets.

Kobbie Mainoo is consistently injured for Manchester United

With Everton already having injury issues with Merlin Rohl since the attacking midfielder made a deadline day move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, they would be foolish to add another injury-prone player to their squad.

Despite Bruno Fernandes once describing his teammate as a “special” player” to The People’s Person on 27 November 2023, there are plenty of issues with the youngster.

Mainoo is yet to go an entire season in the first-team injury-free, and has often missed long portions of the campaign on the sidelines.

In the previous two seasons, the 20-year-old has missed nearly a combined 40 matches for club and country through ankle and muscle issues.

Now, Mainoo has picked up another injury and was sidelined for Man United’s recent draw against Tottenham.

Therefore, Everton would be fools to even consider bringing in the midfielder when he is likely not going to remain fit for the loan spell.

Instead, Moyes should target other players who have a more reliable injury record.

Who else are Everton targeting ahead of the January transfer window?

With January approaching, rumours are starting to increase around the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Two players who has been linked to Everton are Joshua Zirkzee and Ivan Toney as Moyes looks to solve his attacking issues.

Myles Lewis-Skelly is also a rumoured target at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, in another deal that could be a loan.

However, it remains to be seen how many of these rumours take root over the coming weeks and months.
