Jack Grealish needs Wayne Rooney to be completely wrong as Everton star given brutal advice
Wayne Rooney does not believe Jack Grealish will be named in England’s World Cup squad by Thomas Tuchel.
Grealish was not named in Tuchel’s squad for England’s World Cup qualifying games against Serbia and Albania this month.
This comes after Jordan Pickford extended his clean sheet record for England in their 2-0 win over Serbia on Thursday.
After Grealish’s stellar form for Everton this season, the German coach’s decision to omit him from his squad will be a difficult pill to swallow.

Jack Grealish might as well ‘book his holiday’ this summer
Grealish has a solid start to the season for the Toffees, but has failed to net in his last three Premier League games for Everton.
Indeed, his last goal came during Everton’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, where he secured all three points for his side during stoppage time.
However, this hasn’t been enough to earn him a call-up to The Three Lions, and Rooney doesn’t believe his efforts will book him a spot in their World Cup squad.
“Jack Grealish may as well book his holiday for the summer now because he’s not getting in the squad,” the former Manchester United star said via The Wayne Rooney Show on 14 November.
The left-winger will no doubt be hoping that Rooney’s take is far off the mark, especially with the World Cup on the horizon.
England’s current attacking choices include the likes of Harry Kane, Jarrod Bowen and Bukayo Saka.
As a result, Grealish will need to outperform one of them, specifically the latter two, to be in with a chance of making the World Cup.
Has Jack Grealish performed better than Marcus Rashford?
Grealish and Rashford both play on the left-wing, and despite Anthony Gordon’s solid performances for Tuchel, the Man United star will likely be the German’s first option.
Rashford has spent the season on loan at Spanish side Barcelona, after a successful half-season loan spell at Aston Villa in 2024-25.
The left-winger has performed well thus far:
- He has made 16 appearances for the La Liga side
- He has netted six goals and provided nine assists
- Six of his goal contributions have come in the UEFA Champions League
Meanwhile, Grealish has five goal contributions in 12 appearances for Everton this season. This is not a bad record, but Tuchel will likely want decisive players in his World Cup squad.
As a result, the current Manchester City loanee will need to get his numbers up to impress the England manager.
The only way he will achieve that is by getting his head down at Everton and showing exactly what he can do between now and May when the final squad is announced.
