What David Moyes has said about James Ward-Prowse as reunion is mooted at Everton

Everton are considering a move for West Ham’s James Ward-Prowse, with David Moyes a big fan of the former England international.

The duo previously worked together at the London Stadium, with the Scotsman signing the midfielder from Southampton.

With Everton already preparing for the upcoming January window, Moyes is on the hunt for new signings.

One such player linked to Everton is Ward-Prowse, who is currently out of favour at the East London club.

With a loan with an obligation to buy being mooted, Moyes may be able to return the star to his best at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

David Moyes: James Ward-Prowse adds a new dimension

Everton have been chasing a new midfielder ahead of the transfer window, with Kobbie Mainoo being recently linked with a switch to the Toffees.

However, while the addition of Ward-Prowse may not be as exciting, the 31-year-old is one of the best in the league at dead balls.

While Everton have been solid from dead balls this season, there is always room for improvement, and Ward-Prowse is extremely deadly from these situations.

Speaking back on 22 September 2023 to Football 365, Moyes claimed that the midfielder did not replace Declan Rice at West Ham, but rather added a new dimension to his team thanks to his ability to provide goals.

“I always thought from the start he would be ideal – I would never use the word replacement because I don’t think you can replace Declan with one player – but James has given us another dimension,” said Moyes.

“He’s played well. He’s added goals and assists. The top-scoring midfield players – maybe Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, I would go back longer to people like John Wark – and James might not get as many goals as them, but he might get more assists than them so what he’s doing is really good for us.”

How many free-kicks has Ward-Prowse scored in the Premier League?

To date, Ward-Prowse has netted 17 free-kicks in the Premier League.

This is the second-highest in history, with only David Beckham having more at 18.

His most iconic arguably came against Wolves in the 2021/22 campaign, as a thumping knuckleball strike hit the back of the net from distance.

Now, Moyes will be looking to harness this ability to ensure the Toffees march up the Premier League table.
