David Moyes already has ‘surreal’ answer to Seamus Coleman question at Everton

Everton should give Seamus Coleman an opportunity after his heroics for the Republic of Ireland.

Liverpool Echo journalist Joe Thomas believes the Toffees should look for a new right-back sooner rather than later, but until they sign one, the 37-year-old defender is capable of holding his own in L4.

Coleman played his part for the Republic of Ireland against Hungary in the World Cup qualifiers on 16 November, playing 60 minutes in the 3-2 win.

Jake O’Brien has been David Moyes’ first-choice right-back, but it would make sense to play the 24-year-old in his natural position at the Merseyside outfit.

Seamus Coleman can still contribute at Everton

Thomas feels it’s “surreal” that Coleman may be the answer to who can replace him at the Toffees.

The journalist has urged the Blues to reinforce the right-hand side of their defence at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, although the Irishman can still play a part in their success.

James Garner has often played as a full-back this season, highlighting the lack of quality options Moyes thinks he has at his disposal.

Thomas wrote in the Liverpool Echo on 18 November: “This all feels very surreal — the idea that Coleman could be the answer to the longstanding question: ‘How do you replace Coleman?'”

“The obvious answer to this question is the only sensible answer — Everton should look to sign a new right-back at the earliest possible opportunity. Until then, I am of the belief that Coleman should be given a go.”

Coleman’s future may still be at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in a coaching role, with his current contract expiring at the end of the season.

David Moyes has another transfer priority at Hill Dickinson Stadium

While defensive additions are arguably needed at the Toffees, Moyes should demand a new striker at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in January.

Everton realise Thierno Barry and Beto can’t be relied on to take them further up the Premier League table, with both number nines struggling this season.

A prolific goalscorer certainly has to be a priority for the Merseyside outfit in the winter transfer window, but it remains to be seen who they end up signing.

With Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish shining at the Blues, the centre-forward position seems to be the only weak point up front in L4.
