Everton backed to sign another Manchester City star after Jack Grealish, he wants January move

Everton have been backed to finally force through a deal for Nathan Ake in the January transfer window.

The Netherlands international has been a key part of the Manchester City team in recent years, but he has been limited to just one start in the Premier League so far in 2025-26.

Everton were linked with a move for Ake in the summer, but the centre-back ultimately remained at the Etihad Stadium, despite Pep Guardiola’s desire to trim the squad.

David Moyes and Co. were keen to strike a deal for the former Chelsea defender back then, and they may now get another huge opportunity to secure his signature this winter.

Nathan Ake a ‘very good’ option for Everton as Man City exit looms

Everton have the chance to sign Ake once again in January, with the City star adamant that he wants a move ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

Crystal Palace have entered the race as a potential suitor, while it remains to be seen whether the Toffees will be keen to reignite their pursuit from a matter of months ago.

The 30-year-old could potentially cost as little as £26million, and he has collected six Premier league winners’ medals throughout his career so far.

Ex-Everton scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that a move to his former club would be “ideal” for Ake, and has backed the Merseysiders to pull off a deal.

“I like Ake, he’s a good player,” King said.

“I think Everton would be an ideal move for him, because they’ve already taken (Jack) Grealish there from City.

“He could certainly be a very, very good option for Everton. He’s got loads of experience, not only in the Premier League but also in Europe.”

Nathan Ake to surpass 250 Premier League games with the Toffees

Jordan Pickford’s new contract at Everton will ensure that he goes down among the greats of the club, and he is now one of the most experienced figures in the current squad.

Ake would slot in on a similar level to the England goalkeeper if he did come through the door in January, with only four members of the current Toffees squad boasting more Premier League appearances than the Dutchman.

The defender has clocked up exactly 240 top-flight games across spells with Chelsea, Watford, Bournemouth and City, and that tally can only be bettered by Pickford, Seamus Coleman and Michael Keane within Moyes’ current group.

That experience would be invaluable to help the team progress, and when you throw in the fact that he is also an experienced campaigner on the European stage, it would surely be a no-brainer for Everton if they could bring him in.
