‘Everton may need to break wage structure to seal Man United transfer agreement for Kobbie Mainoo’ – Exclusive

Everton look set to be busy in the upcoming January transfer window, with Kobbie Mainoo a possible target from Manchester United.

With David Moyes also eyeing Evan Ferguson, the Friedkin Group looks set to open the chequebook at the Hill Dickinson Stadium after a positive start.

Mainoo has struggled at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim, initially after breaking through under Erik ten Hag for the Red Devils.

Scott McTominay is said to be another Everton target, with the Manchester United links spreading through several possible new additions.

With that comes hefty price tags and wages for Everton, however.

Everton set for blockbuster transfer spend in January

Loans or permanent, if Everton can sign a couple of the players they’ve been linked with, it will be a January to remember on Merseyside.

Dan Plumley has shared that no matter which Manchester United player any club tries to sign, they will need to deal with the hefty wage bill.

The football finance expert compared that to Everton with Mainoo, insisting that his wage will likely be higher than most, if not all, currently on the books in blue after a careless few years at Old Trafford.

“If you’re looking at getting a Manchester United player on loan or even to buy them, you’re going to have to deal with the wage bill,” Plumley exclusively told Goodison News.

“It’s going to be higher than what you’ve currently got in position, if you’re comparing Everton and Manchester United.

You’ve got the decision to make whether you’re going to take some of that burden on or if you’re looking for a full signing, you take that on and get into negotiations.

The wage cost is always a risk; you’re adding to your overall yearly charge, and you’ve then got to look at where we’re at with PSR and all kinds of conversations moving forward about what it may become with squad costs.

It does factor in, and you’ve got to go in with your eyes open, but certainly, the wages would be a considerable part of that deal.”

What is Kobbie Mainoo’s current contract situation?

This is where the drama starts.

As per Calcio Mercato in Italy, Mainoo wants to leave Old Trafford for more playing time, with talks over a new deal stalling over those demands.

Napoli are said to be interested, so Everton will face stiff competition, but the opportunity to remain in the Premier League and prove himself on that stage again must be a big motivation.

With only weeks to go until the winter window opens, it’s time for the Friedkins to get to work.
