Manchester United ‘problems’ as Everton backed to pull off three-month first at Old Trafford

Jeff Stelling has backed Everton to become the first side since August to take points off Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are the favourites to beat Everton, with Ruben Amorim’s side recovering from a dismal start to the season.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in five Premier League games but have drawn the last two, against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham.

Before the international break, Everton beat Fulham 2-0 in a confidence-boosting display for David Moyes‘ side.

Moyes is expected to make just one change to his team against Manchester United, with the Scot weighing up his options through the middle.

Jeff Stelling makes Manchester United vs Everton prediction

It will be a return to Old Trafford for Moyes, who managed Manchester United for less than a year between 2013 and 2014.

The Scot had been selected to replace Sir Alex Ferguson, but the appointment could not have worked out worse.

Ironically, it was a 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park which ultimately sealed Moyes’ fate, with Manchester United announcing the manager’s departure just two days later.

The years since have very much proved that the problems stemmed more from Manchester United themselves, however, rather than Moyes specifically.

Amorim has experienced many of the same issues, although the former Sporting Club boss looks to have turned somewhat of a corner.

Everton will try to make a further dent in the 40-year-old’s progress on Monday, however, with Jeff Stelling predicting Everton’s attackers to cause “problems” for United in a 1-1 draw.

Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish could certainly cause United problems, and I have a gut feeling that Everton are going to get something from Old Trafford,” he told talkSPORT on Thursday.

“I’m going Manchester United 1-1 Everton.”

Everton’s last win at Old Trafford came 12 years ago

To find Everton’s last win at Old Trafford, you have to go back to 2013 – when Moyes was standing in the home dugout.

Roberto Martinez’s team shocked United, with Bryan Oviedo scoring late in the game to walk away with three points.

It was a sign of things to come for Moyes at Old Trafford, with the reverse fixture at Goodison Park completing a full circle of turmoil for the Scot.

Over a decade later, the Toffees will attempt to do the same to Amorim, with Moyes on their side this time.
