David Moyes out for revenge after sacking reveal despite woeful stat vs Manchester United

David Moyes has won just seven from 40 games against Manchester United throughout his managerial career.

Everton will play Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday, providing the Scot with another opportunity to get one over on his former club.

It has been over a decade since the 62-year-old was sacked by the Red Devils, who have continued to stagnate.

Manchester United are the favourites against Everton, but Moyes will be confident that his side can create problems for Ruben Amorim’s side.

Amorim praised Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish ahead of the game, with the pair expected to be key to any positive result for the visitors on 24 November.

David Moyes holds terrible record vs Manchester United

Moyes has faced Manchester United on 40 occasions, losing with Everton, West Ham and Sunderland.

Only once has the Scot marked consecutive victories against the Red Devils, in two games at the London Stadium with the Hammers between the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons.

The majority of Moyes’ games against Manchester United came with Everton, however.

The 62-year-old has just four wins in 25 games against them while in charge of the Blues, although it could well have been five, had last season’s game ended differently.

Everton were 2-0 up in the first half at Goodison Park in February, before quickfire goals from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte levelled the scores in the second half.

The Toffees thought they had been given a penalty when Ashley Young went down late on, but the decision was somehow overturned on VAR review.

Moyes lambasted Manchester United for exit treatment

It was a loss to Everton that sealed Moyes’ exit at Manchester United. The Scot had left his side seventh, and set for their lowest Premier League finish in history.

The now-Everton boss later said that he did not regret taking the move, but revealed in 2023 that his exit was handled poorly.

I found out about my sacking through the media,” Moyes told the Diary of a CEO podcast. “I tried to make contact and say ‘why don’t we meet up’ but it didn’t suit and before I knew it they called me in the day after and the whole world knew about it before I got to know.

“Sometimes people want to get it done right, and I didn’t think it was right. But I genuinely don’t have any real gripe about it because of the industry I’m in.”

Bad feelings or not, Moyes will be in charge of the club he should not have left on Monday, and he will be out to inflict a blow on the club he should not have joined.
