Gary Neville shares immediate reaction to crazy Man United vs Everton scenes

Gary Neville seemed surprised that Idrissa Gana Gueye was shown a red card for Everton.

An away trip at Old Trafford is hard enough as it is, though Everton have made it even harder for themselves inside the first 15 minutes.

Just minutes after Seamus Coleman was forced off with an injury, Gueye and Michael Keane had a disagreement that led to the former slapping his teammate, with a red card brandished as a result.

Keane was furious with his teammate for losing his head over an error that led to nothing, with Neville reacting to the incident after several replays.

Idrissa Gueye’s stupidity could cost Everton

Aside from the one chance that emerged from Keane’s slight mishap, Everton have been comfortable in the game against Man United.

However, now a man down, that is likely to change signficantly for the final 45 minutes, despite being 1-0 up courtesy of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Initial replays made the incident seem fairly soft, though after a second and a third replay, Neville realised why the red card was given, though he still wasn’t in full agreement with it.

Via Sky Sports Main Event, he said: “I think the major anger that he showed was actually after he’d been sent off. It looked a little innocuous.”

A second replay of the incident was shown, to which Neville said: “So just there, yeah, maybe it looks a little bit more aggressive from that side. I think it could have been dealt with by a yellow.”

Ultimately, the force determines if it is a red or a yellow, making it a somewhat subjective decision.

Everton need to come down hard on Idrissa Gueye

For a player with his experience to lose his head with a teammate like that is entirely unacceptable.

Everton may well go on to win this game, but Gueye now faces a three-match ban, having left his side in the lurch in one of the hardest grounds in the country to come away with a result from.

It’s childish, petulant behaviour that you wouldn’t even expect from a teenage debutant, never mind someone who has been there and done it all like Gueye.

David Moyes will be furious with his midfielder, and rightfully so.
