Idrissa Gana Gueye sends personal message to Everton fans after ridiculous Old Trafford red
Idrissa Gana Gueye has apologised to Everton fans, Michael Keane and his other teammates after his sending off against Manchester United.
Gueye was sent off against Man United for striking Keane in the first half of the contest, leaving Everton with 10 men for around 80 minutes.
Despite the man disadvantage, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall fired the Toffees in front not long after and Everton saw out a famous 1-0 win at Old Trafford.
Jordan Pickford was superb for Everton, as was every last player, helping to bail out Gueye for what was a moment of stupidity.
Idrissa Gana Gueye breaks silence on red card at Old Trafford
The Premier League released a statement clarifying why Gueye was issued a straight red card by referee Tony Harrington.
Due to Gueye striking Keane in the face, it was deemed worth of a sending off, which VAR stood by.
As per the rules, Harrington was technically correct in sending Gueye off. The Senegal international will simply be grateful to Dewsbury-Hall and the rest of his colleagues for ensuring it ultimately didn’t matter.
Taking to X on Monday evening, Gueye broke his silence as he said: “I want to apologise first to my teammate Michael Keane.
“I take full responsibility for my reaction. I also apologise to my teammates, the staff, the fans and the club. What happens does not reflect who I am or the values I stand for.
“Emotions can run high, but nothing justifies such behaviour. I’ll make sure it never happens again.”

Gueye signed off the post with “UTT” – Up The Toffees – and a blue love heart emoji.
Gueye unlikely to play for Everton again in 2025
Gueye’s sending off will likely mean he now misses Everton’s next three matches, which are against Newcastle United, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest.
That takes us up to 13 December and a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea. However, with the Africa Cup of Nations beginning two weeks later, it may well be that Gueye is already with the Senegal squad.
| Man United | Everton | |
| 0 | Goals | 1 |
| 6 | Shots on target | 1 |
| 70% | Possession | 30% |
| 452 | Passes | 201 |
| 12 | Fouls | 8 |
That tournament continues into 2026, which means Gueye may not play for Everton again this calendar year.
In truth, it may be for the best that his return to the side is delayed in order to let this sorry situation be brushed under the carpet.
All the matters is that Everton still prevailed against United, with Gueye’s red card only adding to the magical scenes at full-time.
