Jamie Carragher ‘convinced’ what’ll soon happen to Everton player he finds ‘brilliant’
Jamie Carragher is “convinced” Seamus Coleman will stay on at Everton in some capacity when he eventually stops playing for the club.
Coleman was named in Everton’s starting lineup for Monday night’s clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Coleman impressed for Republic of Ireland over the international break and was rewarded with a recall to the Everton XI.
Veteran defender Coleman signed a new Everton contract to see him through until the end of the 2025-26 campaign, but he recently turned 37 and it is widely considered this could be his last campaign.
Seamus Coleman tipped to take up coaching role with Everton
Coleman is into his 17th season as an Everton player and is widely considered to be one of the greatest pound-for-pound signings in Premier League history.
The fact he is still being called upon by David Moyes says an awful lot about the depth of Everton’s squad more than anything, but the full-back will no doubt already be thinking of life post-playing.
And in the view of Carragher, it seems inevitable Coleman will still be around at Finch Farm even when he does hang up his boots.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher said: “They haven’t been able to fully replace Seamus Coleman.
“What I find brilliant about Coleman is that when you listen to every player or new signing at Everton, they always speak about Coleman.
“If Coleman stops playing for Everton at the end of the season, that will not be the end for him at Everton. I’m convinced he’ll be in the system and could eventually manage the club.”
Coleman was recently hailed by Thierno Barry for helping him settle into life at Everton upon joining in the summer.
Coleman climbing up Everton’s all-time appearance list
Coleman made his 433rd appearance for Everton in Monday’s clash with Manchester United.
| Player | Appearances |
| Kevin Ratcliffe | 494 |
| Ted Segar | 500 |
| Dave Watson | 528 |
| Brian Labone | 534 |
| Neville Southall | 750 |
That sees him close in on Kevin Ratcliffe’s 494 appearances, with the Welshman fifth on Everton’s list of all-time appearance makers.
Ted Segar is next on that list with a nice round 500, followed by Dave Watson (528), Brian Labone (534) and then, out in front, the legend that is Neville Southall (750).
Coleman does not have many more appearances in him, but he may well be looking at Ratcliffe has one of the five he could catch before calling it quits.
