David Moyes to look away as Everton confront nine-year curse vs Bournemouth

Everton have not enjoyed their trips to Bournemouth in recent years.

On Tuesday, Everton take on Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in a Premier League match where David Moyes will be looking for a response.

Everton lost 4-1 to Newcastle at home on Saturday, and the performance has caused concern.

Moyes will be light in midfield for the showdown, with Idrissa Gana Gueye still unavailable and Merlin Rohl ruled out again after surgery.

Injuries are not on the Toffees’ side, and neither is a frightening record that haunts them at the Vitality Stadium.

Everton haven’t won at the Vitality Stadium in nine years

The Toffees are still hopeful of at the very least finishing in the top 10 this season, but want to push their own limits.

The ultimate goal is for Everton to achieve European football, which has seemed like more of a possibility since Moyes’ return.

However, the Blues could be set for another result that derails that dream, as it’s been a long time since they had a victory in Bournemouth.

Everton haven’t won at the Vitality Stadium since 2016, when the Toffees ran out 2-0 victors in the FA Cup fifth round.

Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley were on the scoresheet for Roberto Martinez in this game, just months before the Spaniard’s dismissal.

To add further woe, Everton have lost in their last four visits to the ground, but Moyes will be up for ending this curse on 2 December.

Thierno Barry could finally get his breakthrough vs Bournemouth

The Cherries will be without Marco Senesi for the game due to suspension, which immediately weakens Andoni Iraola’s backline.

Thierno Barry came close to scoring his first goal for the Toffees in the loss to Newcastle, but it was ruled out for the Frenchman allegedly handling the ball.

He’s shown promise in recent appearances, and Moyes should persist with the striker, who could be the difference for Everton.

Travelling Bluenoses will be hopeful of seeing their team break this horrid record against the Cherries, and Barry could be the answer.
