Phil Jones names player who’s to thank for Jack Grealish joining Everton

Jack Grealish has become an instant hit at Everton since his loan move, with Phil Jones believing that Jeremy Doku is to thank for the transfer.

The Manchester City loanee was simply not getting game time at the Etihad Stadium, which eventually saw him lose his place in the England setup.

While Grealish is yet to get back into the England squad, he no doubt has a chance to get in ready for the World Cup in the summer.

In the meantime, he has continued to be excellent for Everton, and this may be down to Doku’s form at Man City.

Phil Jones: Jack Grealish was forced out due to Jeremy Doku’s form

While Man City have had their misfortunes in recent years, they still have multiple players with serious talent.

One is no doubt Doku, who has shone since joining from Rennes in 2023.

Since signing, the Belgium international has established himself as a major player, which resulted in Grealish’s game time being limited at Man City.

As a result, speaking to Sports Illustrated FC on 5 December, Jones believes that Doku’s form at Man City was likely the reason why Grealish left.

He said: “[Doku’s] incredible at the minute. He’s done really well and he’s probably the reason why Jack Grealish got forced out as well.

“And I love Jack. I think, you know, he looks like he’s really enjoying his football again at Everton.

“It’s nice to see because he’s the top player as well.”

Jack Grealish: I am loving life at Everton

It is no secret that Grealish has found his love for football again since joining Everton.

The winger is arguably the Toffees’ best player, and has continued to dominate games for David Moyes’ side.

His goal against Bournemouth in the week once again showcased his quality and earned Everton another valuable three points.

Therefore, it is no surprise that Grealish is currently loving life in Merseyside.

“I love the manager to pieces,” Grealish told Sky Sports after the Bournemouth match.

“I have only known him for a few months and I can’t speak highly enough of him as a person and how he makes me feel – how he makes me want to go there and play for him, so credit to him.

“All the teams I’ve played on loan for, even at Notts County, I was so lucky to have a good connection with the fanbase. This is another one. [Everton fans] have been so good to me.”
