David Moyes already threatens to axe Thierno Barry after maiden Everton goal

David Moyes has fired a warning towards striker Thierno Barry after the forward netted his first goal for Everton.

Barry finally scored against Nottingham Forest as the Toffees cruised to a 3-0 win at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday.

Nikola Milenkovic headed into his own net to give Everton the lead, before the young centre-forward doubled the hosts’ advantage moments before half-time.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall added a third late on for Everton as Moyes’ side climbed up to sixth in the Premier League as a result, with their fourth win in five games.

David Moyes brings Thierno Barry back down to earth

Barry was clearly delighted to end his barren streak for Everton, after a disappointing start to life on Merseyside.

The 23-year-old made the summer move from Villarreal to the Toffees, but didn’t find the net in his first 16 games for the club.

However, Moyes is not about to let Barry rest on his laurels, firing a sharp warning at the striker in his post-match press conference.

Moyes said: “He’ll not be able to play another six games and only score one goal!

I have to say, Beto is beginning to show more in what he’s doing. Barry will need to keep playing well if he’s going to stay [in the team].”

Along with Barry, Beto has really struggled for Everton this season and was ultimately dropped from the starting lineup as a result.

The 27-year-old managed to score eight Premier League goals for the Toffees last term, but has found the net just once in the top-flight during the 2025-26 campaign.

As well as warning Barry that his place in the team was not safe, Moyes also reiterated the need to get Beto back firing after the Nottingham Forest game.

He said: “The choice was to give Thierno a run in the team and get used to the Premier League, but we’re really hoping Beto comes back into form as well.”

If Everton manage to get both of their strikers scoring goals at the same time, then it gives Moyes more options going forward, and will undoubtedly help the team.
