Paul Merson cannot hide bias as he makes Chelsea vs Everton prediction
Paul Merson believes that Chelsea will beat Everton on Sunday.
Everton have a dismal record at Stamford Bridge, failing to win in their last 30 visits to the West London outfit.
Everton have failed to score in 27 separate Premier League matches against Chelsea, and could equal a club record when the sides meet on 13 December.
While it is fair to believe that Enzo Maresca’s side will win due to those facts, Paul Merson’s justification is ludicrous.

Why does Merson think Chelsea will beat Everton?
Despite his links with Arsenal, having played over 423 times for the Gunners, Merson is actually a Chelsea supporter.
That is the only reason why he has given the Londoners the edge in his weekly predictions article for Sportskeeda on 11 December over David Moyes‘ side, rather than for any sporting reason.

He said: “I’m still going to back Chelsea for the win. But I must admit that I went with Chelsea mainly because I support them. This will be a tight game.”

Merson’s reasoning is ridiculous, Everton have every chance to win against Chelsea
Given the hosts the nod just because he supports them is pathetic, he cannot be serious using that to justify his pick for the contest.
Everton have won four of their last five games, including their last two away matches against Manchester United and Bournemouth, without giving up a single goal.
- Everton have recorded 1-0 wins against United and the Cherries in their last two away matches
- They have also beaten Fulham and Nottingham Forest at home by 2-0 and 3-0 scorelines respectively
- Their only defeat in their last five was the 4-1 drubbing from Newcastle at the Hill Dickinson Stadium
Maresca also has numerous absences, such as the injured Liam Delap, Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill and Moises Caicedo, who is suspended, which could very well throw a spanner into his plans.
Therefore, it will not be a straightforward game for the home side, not by any means, so for Merson to not give a sporting reason, and just go with them as he supports them, is ridiculous.
Hopefully, the Toffees can make him look silly when the final whistle blows and defeat his beloved team and continue their brilliant run of form, and charge towards the European places.
