Everton eye Andreas Christensen transfer swoop as Barcelona contract stance emerges

Everton want to reinforce their defensive ranks in the transfer market with the addition of Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen.

David Moyes has been forced to utilise Michael Keane regularly this season, with Jarrad Branthwaite missing most of Everton’s campaign with injury.

James Tarkowski has proved to be a reliable presence at the back for the Hill Dickinson Stadium outfit, but they could do with more depth at the back.

A report from Sports Boom on 12 December claims that the Blues are set to battle Crystal Palace for the former Chelsea star’s signature in the summer.

How much would Christensen cost Everton?

The outlet states that the move for Christensen would be a free transfer, which would be a clever pick-up for the Friedkin Group.

It claims that he has not been offered a new contract by the Camp Nou outfit, with his current deal set to expire in June.

Christensen has significant experience for huge clubs.

The Blues and Palace could make offers for the 29-year-old who already has 93 Premier League appearances to his name.

Why did Antonio Conte label Christensen as future Chelsea captain?

The Dane was named as a potential future captain at Stamford Bridge by former boss Antonio Conte, when he was just 21.

Speaking in 2018 [Sky Sports], the Italian said: “I trust Christensen. I think this player is the present and also for the future for Chelsea. He can also become the captain of this team.”

That was a testament to the former Brondby youngster’s leadership abilities and his mentality at such a young age.

He moved to the Spanish side in 2022 on a free transfer and continued to show his elite ability, helping the Blaugrana to the La Liga title in the 2022–23 campaign.

He featured just five times in the 2024-25 title-winning season, with injuries taking their toll, but he may just need a change of scenery to get back to his best.

He would offer the Toffees exactly the type of experience and maturity that they need to progress into the upper echelons in the top-flight.

While there may be concerns about his availability, his career so far and the things that he has achieved would make it a very exciting signing, if the Blues can pull it off.
