Friedkin Group have major transfer dilemma at Everton as Evan Ferguson finally proves himself

Everton were handed a reason to pursue a transfer for Evan Ferguson as Roma beat Celtic in the Europa League on Thursday.

Ferguson scored two goals at Parkhead on 11 December, effectively handing a come-and-get-me plea to the Toffees, who have been linked with him recently.

The Republic of Ireland international joined the Giallorossi on loan from Brighton in the summer, but it doesn’t seem like Gian Piero Gasperini fancies him.

The Hill Dickinson Stadium has emerged as a potential destination for Ferguson in January, but it remains to be seen whether The Friedkin Group will facilitate that move.

Evan Ferguson set for Roma stay amid Everton interest

Tuttomercatoweb suggested that the game against Celtic could potentially be one of the last chances for Ferguson to impress the Roma bosses, and his brace will surely have done that.

The news outlet reported on 11 December before the game that a move back to Brighton is seemingly on the cards for the 21-year-old if he can’t prove himself before the winter transfer window opens.

Dan Friedkin, who owns the Serie A outfit, may now have a major dilemma on his hands regarding the Irishman, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see the striker stay in Italy now.

Marco Campanella wrote on Tuttomercatoweb: “The manager’s words sound like a warning: between now and January, Ferguson will have to prove himself. One goal in fourteen games is too meagre for a striker who arrived with high expectations, so much so that an early return to Brighton now seems inexorably approaching.”

Como, Juventus and Genoa are Roma’s next three opponents, and if Ferguson can keep up his form, there may be no reason for Gasperini to sanction his exit.

David Moyes will nevertheless want TFG to back him in January, with a new number nine seemingly a priority for the Scottish manager.

Dwight McNeil replacement lined up at the Hill Dickinson Stadium

Rijeka attacking-midfielder Toni Fruk has emerged as a target for Everton, with the Merseyside outfit keeping tabs on him.

If the Toffees end up signing the 24-year-old Croatia international in the coming weeks, that could potentially spell the end of Dwight McNeil’s time at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The former Burnley star is struggling for game time at the Blues, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him look for a move away sooner rather than later.

Fruk’s situation will be one to keep a close eye on as the Merseysiders are yet to make a concrete approach for him.
