David Moyes admission after Everton loss vs Chelsea is worst possible news for Thierno Barry

Thierno Barry’s struggles in front of goal since arriving at Everton have been well documented.

The 23-year-old failed to find the net in Everton’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and has just one goal in 18 appearances for the Toffees.

Strike partner Beto has also struggled, scoring two goals in 18 appearances, which is slightly better than what Barry has managed but is still a terrible return.

Tony Cascarino is among those to criticise Barry and Beto, with Evertonians fully aware that an upgrade is required up top.

The hope is that a new forward can be brought in as early as January, and David Moyes has now provided hope that may be the case.

David Moyes provides January transfer update at Everton

Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy had little to say about Everton on Match of the Day after the loss to Chelsea.

It was a disappointing afternoon for the Toffees, but this has still been a very positive campaign as we approach the Christmas and New Year programme.

The one area of improvement desperately needed, though, is up top. Beto and Barry quite simply are not cut out to lead an attack at this level.

Moyes provided an update on Everton‘s transfer hopes for January after the game to talkSPORT, saying: “I think January is always important.

“I don’t know if it’s always an easy month to really do your business but look, we’ll try if we think there’s something that can help us.”

While he cannot come straight out and say Everton are in the market for a new attacker, Moyes quite clearly wants to strengthen in that area.

Everton may have found their man in Franculino Dju

Everton have been linked with FC Midtjylland forward Franculino Dju, and the Danish club could be tempted to cash in next month if a decent offer is tabled.

Dju has scored 16 goals in 17 top-flight appearances this season. While that does not always transfer over to the Premier League, he is quite clearly a very hot talent.

Whether it is someone like Dju or even a more proven option on English shores, someone different is needed for the second half of the campaign.

Barry has showed glimpses of quality, but the bottom line is that Everton cannot have any passengers if they are to maintain an outside chance of qualifying for European football.
