Everything said about Everton loss vs Chelsea on Match of the Day – BBC should be ashamed

Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy’s analysis of Everton’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea on Saturday was frankly appalling.

First-half goals from Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto saw Everton comfortably beaten by Chelsea, despite squandering three big chances of their own.

Iliman Ndiaye hit the post after a mazy run, while James Tarkowski and Jack Grealish missed fantastic chances after heading wide from close range.

The result leaves the Toffees sitting in eighth place, although they could drop down to 10th after Sunday’s Premier League matches.

Everton have been excellent under David Moyes this season, and it was incredibly surprising when their performance wasn’t mentioned at all on Match of the Day.

Everton not mentioned once in Match of the Day analysis

Shearer and Murphy were the selected pundits for Saturday’s show, and it’s safe to say that they were far from impressive in their analysis of Everton.

Speaking on Match of the Day, both pundits only looked at Gusto’s impressive performance, registering a brilliant assist before scoring the second goal of his Chelsea career.

They then moved on to discuss Enzo Maresca’s comments after the match, where he spoke about the struggles he faced at Chelsea in the buildup to the game.

In his praise of the 22-year-old, Murphy said: “The star of the show was Gusto, and what an amazing performance.

“Palmer dictates where he wants the ball, and it’s a wonderful pass.

“He was hitting diagonals with his left foot in the middle of the pitch, and we have seen him get into dangerous areas when we’ve watched him play before.”

It’s staggering that nothing was said about Everton, especially given that the match was at 3 pm and not available for fans to watch.

Everton ultimately punished by quality in relatively even match

Grealish has been the bright spark for Everton for the majority of the campaign, and he was one of the few players to play well in London.

The 30-year-old winger completed 100 per cent of his passes, although his poor finishing cost him at the end of the day.

Grealish was subbed off with another possible injury, with Tyler Dibling coming on in the 84th minute.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also came off early in the game, and with Iliman Ndiaye heading off to AFCON, Everton’s attack took a mighty blow at Stamford Bridge.

The Toffees are still among the European spots, and the mood certainly hasn’t been dampened regarding their prospects for the rest of the season.

Their next match against league leaders Arsenal will definitely indicate just how good this Moyes team can perform at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
