Dwight McNeil set for chance to save Everton career after David Moyes team news update

Dwight McNeil could now be set for a run in the first team after David Moyes confirmed Jack Grealish potential injury in the defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

It was a terrible weekend for the Toffees as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to the Blues to send them down to ninth. However, perhaps more concerning is the injuries they picked up in the loss.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was forced off for Everton against Chelsea, with arguably their best player this season now potentially out of action during the busy festive period.

However, another potential Everton absentee is also Grealish, with Moyes confirming that he felt an issue with his hamstring in the tie.

While this is no doubt concerning, it would give McNeil a way to save his Everton career.

Dwight McNeil will be hoping for a run of games during the festive period

McNeil has been an outcast at Everton this season.

The winger is yet to start a single Premier League game, and has mainly been used as a substitute.

As a result, McNeil has been linked with an Everton exit, with the 26-year-old clearly no longer a regular starter.

However, this could now be about to change given Grealish’s injury. While it is not known how long the Manchester City loanee could be out of action, he may be rested for numerous games given how busy the upcoming schedule is.

Therefore, with Iliman Ndiaye now on international duty due to AFCON, McNeil could be given a run in the side alongside Tyler Dibling.

This could be the Everton winger’s last chance to save his career at the Merseyside club.

If he puts together a string of strong performances, it may be enough to convince Moyes to keep the 26-year-old.

Can McNeil make a comeback at Everton?

Many Everton fans may have forgotten, but McNeil was a decent player at the Toffees all the way up to last season.

According to Sofascore on 15 December, the winger was consistently ranked higher than many of his teammates on the attacking front, as he made numerous big chances.

Therefore, if he can recover this, he will become a top asset for the Toffees.

While he is unlikely to dislodge Grealish and Ndiaye’s place in the starting XI long-term, he could easily show Moyes why he should be given more minutes going forward.
