Everton line up Beto player-swap deal to sign striker loved by Claudio Ranieri in January

Beto could be utilised in a swap deal by Everton in January.

Beto is facing an uncertain future at Everton after a largely frustrating campaign, with just one Premier League goal so far.

The 27-year-old has been replaced at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Thierno Barry becoming a regular starter for Everton in recent weeks.

Even with Barry joining Everton for big money over the summer, it appears that a new number nine is on the January shopping list for David Moyes.

Beto could be the key to signing a striker as a swap deal for a Claudio Ranieri favourite, which could be in the pipeline ahead of the winter window.

Beto could join Roma in January swap deal

Beto is one of the Premier League’s worst strikers statistically, as he continues to frustrate supporters with his performances every week.

The Guinea-Bissau international puts in a shift, but has struggled to find the net consistently outside of one purple patch in the last campaign.

That could see the Toffees cut their losses in January, especially if they can utilise the ex-Udinese man in a swap deal.

Italian journalist Matteo Moretto has reported that Everton and Roma could utilise their existing relationship to trade Beto for Artem Dovbyk this winter.

This has been described as a “working hypothesis” as the willingness of the Ukraine international is still unseen, with just two weeks remaining until the window opens.

With rave reviews and plenty of goalscoring pedigree behind the 28-year-old, it could prove to be a hugely beneficial deal in L4.

Claudio Ranieri loved Artem Dovbyk at Roma

There has been pressure building the ex-Girona forward since the summer as supporters in the Italian capital felt frustration towards the striker.

Dovbyk scored 17 and assisted three across all competitions in the 2024/25 season, but still came under pressure moving into the current season.

Scrutiny certainly never came from his Roma head coach Ranieri, who continued to show faith in the forward throughout his third spell as head coach.

He said: “Dovbyk has to show what kind of a player he is. We believe in him, and he has to believe in us. I told him to think about the performance, not just the goal.

It’s fine if he plays well but doesn’t score. But if he doesn’t and doesn’t score, that’s bad.I don’t want to believe he has given up.

It feels as if the Ukrianian would represent a step up from Beto in what could prove to be a stunning piece of January business.
