Everton can sign their own Jeremie Frimpong as source speaks out ahead of January switch

Everton are searching for a player with a similar profile to Jeremie Frimpong in January.

The Toffees have had a positive season with summer signings like Jack Grealish thriving for Everton so far this campaign.

That hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from kicking off at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Artem Dovbyk now linked to Everton from Roma.

It seems like forward options are being prioritised, especially with Everton seemingly keen to let Beto go this winter.

That hasn’t stopped interest emerging in defensive options, something which could see someone like Frimpong come in to the blue side of Merseyside.

Everton linked with Zakaria El Ouahdi from Genk

El Ouahdi looks to be an Everton target ahead of the January window as David Moyes looks to bring in a full-back option ready for the second half of the season.

Adam Aznou has really struggled for first-team minutes since joining from Bayern Munich and could be on his way out shortly.

The Toffees have been left to utilise Jake O’Brien as a right-back throughout the campaign, but that could change in the coming weeks.

Africa Foot reported on 15 December that a source close to El Ouahdi has revealed that there is interest from England on the table, but an offer has yet to be made to Genk.

Sky Sports previously suggested that the Toffees are in the running, but the player did have initial reservations over being in a potential relegation battle.

With Moyes dragging his side up to ninth in the Premier League, that view would surely be changed if the Blues were to make an offer.

El Ouahdi compares directly to Jeremie Frimpong at Liverpool

The Genk full-back has been a regular in the Belgian Pro League, having made 85 appearances over three seasons with the Blue and Whites.

The Morocco international clocked up 10 goal involvements from right-back last season and is seen as one of the brightest defensive prospects in Europe.

Everton may see the January window as the ideal opportunity to land a highly rated talent, especially one who compares to someone like Frimpong so closely.

El Ouahdi outperforms the Liverpool man for defensive statistics like blocks, clearances, as well as more offensive characteristics like passes attempted and progressive carries.

There’s no reason with the backing of Moyes and experience in the Premier League why his output wouldn’t improve and stretch even further ahead of the Dutchman.
