Jake O’Brien set for private David Moyes talks after what he has just done at Everton
Jake O’Brien has come under massive scrutiny after Everton lost to Arsenal on Saturday.
It was always going to be a difficult day on Merseyside for David Moyes and Co. as Arsenal were rated as favourites against Everton ahead of the clash.
Arsenal ultimately secured a 1-0 win against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium after a first-half penalty from Viktor Gyokeres.
The Gunners were awarded a spot kick, while Thierno Barry wasn’t afforded a penalty against Arsenal despite valid shouts from the Frenchman.
Things could have been so different if it wasn’t for a moment of madness from O’Brien that looks likely to land him in hot water in L4.

Stan Collymore fumes at Jake O’Brien vs Arsenal
The Republic of Ireland international has typically been a consistent figure for the Toffees, even while playing out of position as a full-back.
He let himself and his teammates down as O’Brien gave a penalty to Arsenal for handball as he was seen to punch the ball away from Riccardo Calafiori.
What was he thinking? That is the thought of almost everyone associated with Everton and anyone watching proceedings on Merseyside.
The defender had little reason to jump with his hands so high, other than to stop his marker from reaching the ball first after being out-leapt.
Stan Collymore hasn’t held back against O’Brien, taking to X to vent his frustrations towards the 24-year-old for costing his side so dearly.
He said: “Jake O’Brien is 6 feet 6 and a central defender who knows what to do at a corner and what threats there are.
“If any central defender is jumping with arms vertical to try to tip the ball away instead of jumping high enough (six foot six is plenty tall), the gaffer needs to have a word at half-time. Cost his team a goal.“
O’Brien let Everton down vs Arsenal
The Toffees arguably deserved more against the Gunners after a largely positive defensive display on Bramley-Moore.
Moyes’ men may not have created many chances, but they were unlucky not to get a penalty for the challenge on Barry.
Arsenal also struggled to create clear-cut chances, but for the most part were shut out by the home side on the day.

If it wasn’t for a moment of madness from O’Brien, the home side could have snatched a point against the Premier League leaders.
The Irishman has questions to answer, and it is unlikely that he is going to get away with such a costly error with little excuse.
