Roma accept ‘the risk is real’ as new update emerges on Artem Dovbyk to Everton transfer

Everton continue to be linked with Roma forward Artem Dovbyk ahead of the January transfer window opening.

David Moyes is prioritising a deal for Dovbyk as Everton look to bring in an upgrade on Thierno Barry and Beto.

Beto could be used as a makeweight to sign Dovbyk, with a possible swap deal between the two Friedkin-owned clubs being discussed.

Dovbyk previously won the Danish Superliga with Midtjylland in 2018 but is better known for his time with Roma.

The Ukraine international bagged 12 goals and a couple of assists in 32 Serie A appearances last season, but he has just two and one respectively in 10 games this term.

Roma want Artem Dovbyk replacement before exit agreed

It is becoming increasingly apparent that Everton may have to use Beto in a swap deal for Dovbyk.

As per Corriere dello Sport’s print edition on Tuesday, Roma “accept the risk is real” for Dovbyk’s departure, but they need an alternative.

A replacement needs to be brought to Stadio Olimpico first, and until then any exit for Dovbyk – to Everton or otherwise – will be delayed.

Gian Piero Gasperini has only handed Dovbyk three league starts this season, but a lack of similar options leaves Roma light in that department.

Friedkin Group could hold key to Dovbyk transfer

Everton could do with signing a new forward as early as 1 January given the lack of firepower provided by Barry and Beto.

However, if it means waiting until the final day of the window to sign the right player, so be it.

Barry and Beto have struggled for Everton this season

And the good news for Everton is that the middle men in all this are The Friedkin Group, who obviously want best for both Roma and the Toffees.

That means there will not be any late twists – on the face of it, at least – so it may well be a case of waiting for Roma to bring in a replacement before Dovbyk is allowed to leave.

Everton will no doubt have other options lined up, and all supporters truly care about is just one talented attacker being brought in next month.
