Merlin Rohl set for first Everton start vs Burnley as David Moyes surely still fuming

Everton surely need Merlin Rohl to finally repay his value against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Toffees signed the Germany Under-21 international on loan with an £18million mandatory purchase option, but he’s yet to start for them this season.

Injuries have frustrated Rohl at the Hull Dickinson Stadium, but he played the final 15 minutes against Arsenal in the 1-0 loss on 20 December.

David Moyes will now hope to beat Burnley on 27 December after back-to-back losses against Chelsea and Arsenal, and the former Freiburg midfielder is undoubtedly needed more than ever.

David Moyes to drop Carlos Alcaraz for Burnley vs Everton

Carlos Alcaraz may be set for the axe from the Toffees’ starting lineup at Turf Moor.

The Argentine ace started against Arsenal, but wasn’t able to do much in his 75 minutes on the pitch at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Playing in the number 10 role in the 1-0 loss, the 23-year-old recorded an xG of 0.18 and an xA of 0.02, as per Sofascore, which is clearly not up to standard.

The former Flamengo star was also sloppy in possession, completing just 74 per cent of his passes and losing the ball eight times.

Apart from the midfielder’s poor attacking display, he couldn’t contribute defensively either, winning just three of his nine duels and being dribbled past three times, which would’ve surely left the 62-year-old head coach fuming.

Alcaraz has let down Moyes this season, and the Scottish manager would be wise to count on Rohl to play in the middle of the park against Burnley instead.

David Moyes must be ruthless with second change vs Burnley

Beto and Thierno Barry haven’t been good enough at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and Moyes must be ruthless with them.

Everton are in desperate need of a goalscorer, and the transfer window gives them an opportunity to strengthen the squad.

If The Friedkin Group aren’t keen on investing in a new striker in January, then the Scottish manager should look to shift someone like Deight McNeil in the number nine position.

Iliman Ndiaye could potentially be another option to play down the middle, but with the Senegal international currently at AFCON, the former Burnley star feels like the best option.
