Premier League make announcement about big controversy in Everton draw vs Burnley

Everton’s 0-0 draw with Burnley on Saturday was not without controversy.

Everton were chasing a late winner when Tyler Dibling‘s effort was charged down by Jaidon Anthony and hit his arm.

However, the penalty appeal was denied, and Dibling was then booked for stopping a counter-attack just moments later in a big, controversial moment.

The Premier League have now reacted to the incident at Turf Moor on 27 December.

Premier League confirm why Dibling penalty shout was not given for Everton

Everton boss David Moyes has already revealed his fury with referees and the PGMOL, the body that are in charge of the officials.

He will have been furious that the penalty was not given, and his side did not have a chance to take the lead.

However, the league have confirmed that Craig Pawson and the VAR officials deemed that the ball was too close to Anthony and his arm was in a natural position.

Taking to X on 27 December, the Premier League Match Centre said: “The referee’s call of no penalty to Everton was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed that Anthony’s arm was in a justifiable position, with the ball coming from close proximity.”

Why Moyes is surely set for another PGMOL meeting

Surely Moyes is set for another meeting with the organisation that controls the referees.

He already had one when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was suspended earlier in the season, for picking up five yellow cards, at least one of which was a poor decision.

The Blues seem to constantly be on the receiving end of controversial calls, and the Scotsman will be keen to stamp it out.

Moyes implied that the big clubs get decisions, while his side don’t and going on recent evidence, he is right.

Arsenal were handed a penalty last week against his side, but when Thierno Barry was brought down by William Saliba, nothing was given.

Then the Dibling handball episode this time around, something has to be done, the standard of refereeing seems to be at an all-time low, even with video technology.

Hopefully, he will get the desired outcome, and his side will start getting the calls, but he will not be feeling confident that it will happen.
