Everton plan for life after Jack Grealish amid latest bargain update on Ruben Vargas transfer
Everton supporters need to prepare themselves for the possibility that Jack Grealish may not stay on Merseyside beyond this current season.
Grealish joined Everton from Manchester City in the summer on a season-long loan, with many expecting the winger to rekindle his best form.
The Englishman has become a fan favourite at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and has already admitted his love towards the Bluenoses, which only makes a potential exit hurt even more.
It has been reported that Everton can buy Grealish for £50million next summer due to a clause that Man City inserted in his loan contract.
However, the latest update on Sevilla’s Ruben Vargas offers a telling insight into where the Blues stand with Grealish.

Everton have one of two stances on Jack Grealish’s £50m buyout
Everton have been monitoring Vargas‘ season in Spain before the left-winger hit an obstacle in the form of a muscle injury back in November.
Regardless, the Toffees’ interest is still prevalent, as a low-ball offer of £13m is reportedly enough for a deal to be wrapped up with Sevilla in January.
The Swiss international was attracting interest from Italian giants Napoli in the summer, and is by no means ready to come to Everton and warm David Moyes’ bench.
| Player | Games | Goals | Assists |
| Jack Grealish | 18 | 2 | 4 |
| Ruben Vargas | 12 | 3 | 4 |
Everton will either not splash the quoted £50m for Grealish due to his age, or the Friedkin Group simply don’t have the money available to sign the 30-year-old, given past financial issues.
The former England international would become the Toffees’ club-record signing if the move went through, a deal which is a lot of money for someone supposedly about to decline.
Moyes has hinted that Everton won’t spend £50m on Grealish, and admitted that the Toffees will need to find a way around paying such a steep fee.
However, could it be a masterstroke in the making from Dan Friedkin and Co.?

Grealish’s current contract details at Man City
Grealish is out of contract at Man City in the summer of 2027, and if Everton really wanted to, they could sign him in under two years for nothing.
The adopted Evertonian is currently on £300,000 per week at City, which Everton now pay a healthy portion of, as the Toffees would most likely be unable to match that next year.
Everton could be playing a game of chess here because there’s no guarantee that another club will want to take Grealish on high wages despite his potential free availability in 2027.
But at the same time, the former Aston Villa man may not be able to demand anywhere near his current wage by then.
Either way, if Grealish can lead the Toffees to European football at the end of the season, then his loan move will have proved a great success in the end, regardless of whether he stays or not.
